Grantham Running Club 10K Handicap

Grantham Running Club has held an annual 10K Handicap race since taking over the event from Grantham Athletic Club, whose members have continued to take part. Having been held for several years at Long Bennington on the Summer Solstice 10K course, in 2017 the event moved to Ropsley on a rolling course ending oustide the Green Man pub.

In 2019 Sleaford Striders were invited to take part in the event which saw the largest turnout in recent times, with over 100 entered and just under 100 finishing the event.

The aim of the Handicap is to have all runners finishing the race at the same time. To do this runners set off at staggered intervals based on their predicted 10K time, taken from a recent 10K performance or, where this isn't available, a parkrun / 5K / Half Marathon / other distance or, failing this, a guestimate. The runner with the quickest predicted time sets off last.

The winner of the Handicap is the runner with the biggest variation (improvement) over their predicted finish time.

As in 2018 the winner of the Handicap receieved £50 vouchers for The Lincolnshire Runner. There were also vouchers awarded randomly to other finishers and to the marshals and those supporting the running of the event.
